PLANNING & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

The vital connection between the natural environment and the business world has long been a central focus of our research at MBDM, Inc. From our Port Authority of Jamaica study of the Environmental Impact of Investing in the Free Zones, to our Study of how NOAA (the Department of Commerce - Fisheries Division) could justify a 3-fold increase in its budget, to rationalizing its revenue streams and improving its permit issuing programs.

We value the use and application of new concepts in helping to better understand the relationship between the environment, the competition and business in this new era.

Today, our analysts focus on corporate environmental strategy, operations and reporting; sustainable cities and infrastructure; the role of government and environmental policy; revenue generation, clean energy generation and demand-side energy efficiency; and the effective management of natural resources essential to human prosperity.

Our Environmental Sustainability Framework

Section One

Outlines our approach to
environmental sustainability. This approach involves progressing understanding of environmental
sustainability and the ability to take action in communities. The Framework’s
primary focus briefly covers wider global, national and regional
issues that impact on municipalities.

MBDM, Inc has played an important role to promote and work with the community and US Government agencies to achieve environmental
sustainability and will continue to work effectively with others that influence EPA outcomes.

MBDM’s environmental sustainability framework, programs and activities - both Local and International - are important for progressing MBDM's Initiatives and the Environmental Protection aspirations. of its clients.

Section Two Of Our Framework

Uses three themes to explore key issues:
One - for protecting and enhancing natural assets:
  • Foreshore
  • Open space
  • Vegetation and bushland
Two - Wise use of natural resources
  • Water
  • Energy
  • Waste
Three. Minimising environmental impacts
  • Climate change
  • Built environment
  • Transport
Finally, Section Three outlines MBDM's strategies and programs to achieve its environmental sustainability objectives and measure its progress.

Longer-term priorities are identified for the development of future initiatives and engaging with government and other key stakeholders.

Facilities Planning

The process of choosing a new location is much like that of any other business decision. First, management assess the relative importance of the factors or attributes on which alternatives are to be evaluated. Second, management, evaluates the attractiveness of the attributes of each alternative location, and finally, management combines the attributes into an overall assessment of each alternative.

As Decision Scientists (with foundations in Operations Research) we can model this complete process to arrive at a list of best options.

Modeling Site Selection

When we model site selection decisions, all these drivers are given weights, including the cost benefit derived from the first phase, based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).

The AHP organizes all of the trade-offs among the competing drivers and helps determine appropriate weights to be used in making a final decision.
